Chronic Dev Team member @pod2g sent out a tweet stating they are all still actively working on an iOS 5 untethered jailbreak. After Comex’s departure to Apple a lot of the jailbreak community is wondering how it affects future development of jailbreak tools. Even though Comex played a huge part in the jailbreak scene there will always be many others willing to step in and fill his shoes. The cat and mouse game will always continue.

We may be reading too much between the lines but lets hope that the jailbreaking community has figured out to support an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5. We’re also quite sure that iPhone Dev team is also working on it.

Seven consecutive betas for iOS 5 has been released by Apple and each release has an accompanying tethered jailbreak via tools like Redsn0w and sn0wbreeze which help developers to begin innovating on iOS 5 with third party widgets and other tweaks.

This means means that you need to connect your iOS device to the computer on every reboot, which is not very convenient.

t will be also interesting to see if Apple fixes the exploit that allows the tethered jailbreak in the next beta version of iOS 5, which may be the final beta version before Apple releases iOS 5 golden master and then releases it to the public.

Dev Team Actively Working

Hopefully Apple won’t be able to cover up the exploit before the final release of iOS 5, kind of seems stupid that the Chronic Dev Team would publicly announce it, especially with Hacker Comex working for Apple now! Even though Comex has turned to the dark side, maybe he’ll let this jailbreak slide. Also, Redsn0w will be updated this monday to provide jailbreaks without downloading any firmware!
