Confirmed: iPhone 5 Verizon Is Factory Unlocked

In matter of days, Verizon, the US biggest cellphone company, sold out Apple’s newest product, iPhone with GSM SIM slot unlocked to customers and are promising to run well on GSM networks. We previously reported that Verizon iPhone 5 is unlocked.
Now the information came public via Associated Press, confirming that Verizon iPhone 5′s SIM slot remains unlocked and Verizon doesn’t have any plan to lock it back through iOS software update.
Associated Press reports:
Last year, the first shipments of the Sprint iPhone 4S were unlocked and worked on AT&T, but Sprint later issued software updates that turned off that capability.
Verizon Wireless spokeswoman Brenda Raney said Monday that Verizon does not plan to relock the iPhone 5.
MacRumors calls Verizon’s decision as a prohibited one, while claiming that the FCC requirement interdicts all licensees to disable features and providing them to customers.
