How-to Save SHSH Blobs using TinyUmbrella

SHSH Blobs is useful to downgrade iOS firmware on iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch (see more: What is SHSH Blobs used for).

In order to save SHSH Blobs using TinyUmbrella, you’ll need TinyUmbrella software which available for both Windows and Mac.

Steps to save SHSH Blobs using TinyUmbrella

  1. Download TinyUmbrella and then Install (for Mac users). Windows users no need to install TinyUmbrella once downloaded.
  2. Open it up.
    You may see an alert:

Your currently “Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit” set. If you are having issues restoring, you need to uncheck this box and apply changes.
Be Warned! If you restore stock Apple firmware, your baseband can and likely will be updated!

This means that if you have “Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit” option set, when you close TinyUmbrella, your hosts file will be modified and point the gs.apple.com to Saurik’s server. This should be no problem if want to restore iPhone as usual without preserving baseband version, simply uncheck the option in Advanced tab in TinyUmbrella and you’re done. But for those who want to keep and preserve the baseband update, you should have this option CHECKED in order to prevent baseband version being updated.

  3. Connect the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch and you’ll see it in the connected device list in the left side. Click on the connected device.
  4. Now, click Save SHSH and TinyUmbrella will start saving the latest SHSH Blobs from Apple’s server. REMEMBER: This will only updated the latest SHSH Blobs.

And now, click Save SHSH AGAIN and TinyUmbrella will start saving all SHSH Blobs from Cydia’s server.

This step will save all available SHSH from Cydia server, all previous SHSH Blobs will be downloaded and saved to your computer, hence the process will be a bit longer than before.

In case Cydia’s server doesn’t have the latest SHSH Blobs, the previous steps will be covering this issue. That’s why we need to Save SHSH Blobs twice.

In Advanced tab, you’ll also see directory where your SHSH Blobs will be saved to. In my case, the SHSH Blobs location is saved to C:\Users\Ryan\.shsh directory.

Now you’ve saved the SHSH Blobs to your computer. Make sure to keep these SHSH Blobs files in a safe place so you can downgrade iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch in the future.

That’s all you need to do to save SHSH Blobs using TinyUmbrella. If you have problem while saving SHSH Blobs with TinyUmbrella, please post the details on the comment form below.
