Last year, the iPhone 4S vs Samsung Galaxy S2 drop test showed that iPhone 4S didn’t survive in a waist high and shoulder high drop.

And today, you will see a drop test comparison video between the Samsung Galaxy S3 and iPhone 5 by Android Authority.

This is what will happen if you drop the Samsung Galaxy S3 like the way they did in the video:

and this is what happened to the iPhone 5

Well, as much as we hate to admit it, the iPhone 5 did amazingly well in our drop test, while the Samsung Galaxy S3 came out in pretty bad shape. It’s the cold hard truth that we can’t hide and we can’t ignore.
The hard aluminum shell of the iPhone 5 withstood the impact pretty well, and the glass protecting the display remained intact. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S3 predictably lost its back cover and suffered damage to the casing and the front glass. Sad, sad, sad.

Meanwhile, 9to5Mac and iFixYouri joined to bring this video of the first drop and durability test for the Apple’s iPhone 5. As you might be expecting, the iPhone 5 can hold up against drops from a few feet off the floor yet still surface well, however its unibody aluminum frame will get damaged and distorted during this process.

This video comes from iFixYouri, which drops the phone from a series of heights, starting at lap height. It takes seven drops before the phone starts to show significant damage (the video says the phone’s frame bent a bit) and even after about 10 drops, the phone’s screen never cracks.

Summary of iFixYouri drop test:

This phone is by far the most durable iPhone we have seen. The strengthened new gorilla glass, paired with the light design is definitely beneficial to the iPhone being able to survive your average drop.
