(Pictures) iPhone 6 with interchangeable Camera lenses?

A week ago, Apple was granted two patents for interchangeable camera lenses for the iPhone, covering different methods of attaching lenses and camera modules to a portable electronic device, including a magnetic solution that incorporates a motor for physical optics adjustments.

This would be amazing to see interchangeable lenses features added into the iPhone 6, I can’t wait until iPhone 6 is released.

Although it’s too early to know if they’ll actually make their way onto this year’s model, we suggest you take the above with a few grains of salt when the new iPhone is unveiled later this year.
This patent filed by Apple back in Dec 13, 2010. The patent may have been part of the late Steve Jobs’ grand plans for making iPhone cameras even more appealing to photographers. So it is possible that the next iPhone could come with a mechanism wherein the user can change the lens or add filters for different types of photography needs.

An abstract from the patent reads,

A portable electronic device includes a digital imaging subsystem with a lens having an optical axis. A case encloses and supports the digital imaging subsystem in a first defined positional relationship to the case. A removable panel is coupled to the case and held in a second defined positional relationship to the case that covers the digital imaging subsystem without the removable panel being directly connected to the digital imaging subsystem. An optical component is supported by the removable panel such that the optical component is aligned with the optical axis and alters optical characteristics of the digital imaging subsystem. The device may include a power supply and an electronic control system coupled to the digital imaging subsystem and the power supply enclosed in and supported by the case.

    More about this patent:

One design by inventor Richard Tsai even shows one panel with lenses at each end, meaning that the panel could just be reversed to change lenses.

iPhone 6 Camera will be 10-megapixels and interchangeable?

iPhone 6 Camera will be 10-megapixels and interchangeable?

According to a Chinese website, the iPhone 6 will feature a slight camera upgrade over the iPhone 5S, bumping the sensor to 10-megapixels.

The news section of the giant electronics e-tailer JD has posted tips claimed to be from the Taiwanese supply chain of Apple suggest that the iPhone 6 camera is going to be 10-megapixels with an f/1.8 aperture at least.

Apparently, this improved camera will also come with interchangeable resin lenses it will be made by a Japanese company, JSR which says,

    ARTON resin lenses

    ARTON resin lenses

ARTON is superior in optical characteristics, dimension stability, and is a transparent resin (cyclic olefin resin) of a high heat resistance. ARTON is one of the high functional resins best suited for optical applications such as optical films, light guiding plates, optical lenses etc.

While it seems unlikely that the company will actually add interchangeable lenses to the iPhone 6, Apple has been recently granted two patents for iPhone interchangeable camera lenses, so the story seems quite plausible.
