These next steps will install Cydia on to your iDevice

To install cydia, follow the steps below:
The following steps to install Cydia is done using Terminal on Mac. You can use the same commands on Windows using a SSH program like WinSCP.

Step 10: Make sure your device is connected to your PC or Mac. Start Terminal on Mac and type:

ssh root@<IP address of your device goes here>

Step 11: It will now prompt you to enter the root password. Type: alpine

Step 12: Once done, type:

How to Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 Untethered with redsn0w 0.9.10b4 [Fixes iBooks issues]

RedSn0w was just recently updated to 0.9.10b4! Fixes iBooks issues!

Update #4: The b4 version of redsn0w incorporates the 5.0.1 fix for iBooks, and also for sporadic problems with launchctl.  Thanks to @xvolks for merging the iBooks (sandbox) fix from @comex’s github into the overall corona untether from @pod2g!  As usual, you can choose to install the fix either by re-running redsn0w over your existing jailbreak (de-select Cydia if you do that), or by installing the corona package from Cydia (it’s the same set of files no matter which way you choose).

iBooks Configuration Error There is a problem with the configuration of your iPhone. Please restore with iTunes or redownload iBooks

Already Jailbroken?

  • If you are Jailbroken already on iOS 5.0.1 with the past redsn0w’s:
    • [0.9.10b1]
    • [0.9.10b2]
    • [0.9.10b3]

then you can still run this jailbreak over that jailbreak. You will simply have to UNCHECK “Install Cydia” in redsn0w when you are prompted that screen.

  • If you are running a TETHERED Jailbreak on 5.0.1, simply download “Coronoa 5.0.1 Untether” from Cydia. This will convert you from a TETHERED state to an UNTETHERED state with it being installed on your device. [YOU MUST BE JAILBROKEN ON 5.0.1 FOR IT TO WORK]

What does UNTETHERED mean?
means you can use your device as normal, unlike tethered jailbreak.

Devices Supported

  • iPod touch 3G
  • iPod touch 4G
  • iPad 1
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPhone 4 (GSM)
  • iPhone 4 (CDMA)

Jailbreak is due out REAL soon for iPhone 4S & iPad 2 [possibly a couple days] so be sure to follow @SenseiPhone & @JBTech17 for the latest Jailbreaks! [Click for information on iPhone 4S & iPad 2 Untethered Jailbreak [VIDEO]]

**If your device is not listed above, please do not attempt to jailbreak AND if you rely on a software unlock, USE CUSTOM IPSW ONLY!**

How to fix Cydia Issues for iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak (Corona and RedSn0w)

Cydia appYesterday, Pod2G and the Chronic Dev Team released a long awaited Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 users:

Corona 5.0.1 Untether: a simple Cydia tweak allowing you to convert Tethered to Untethered [How-To Guide Here with Video]

RedSn0w 0.9.10b1: a program [Mac or Windows] used to Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1[How-To Guide Here]

Since then, many have been experiencing problems with Cydia. Many repos have been getting hammered causing them not to load, packages not available, size mismatch issues, timeout errors, and so on. Thanks to @saurik & @planetbeing, RedSn0w and Corona have been updated to resolve this issue.

“The b2 version of redsn0w includes the launchctl-related fix by @planetbeing as mentioned by @saurik here and here. As usual, you can just re-run redsn0w in jailbreak mode over your existing 5.0.1 jailbreak (even a PwnageTool one), making sure to de-select “Install Cydia” if you do. Always be sure to do a controlled “slide to power off” shutdown of your device before running redsn0w.” – Dev-Team Blog

“The launchctl issue also affects you if you used redsn0w to install the 5.0.1 untether. I have built 1.0-3, which can upgrade redsn0w users.” – Saurik

How to fix launchctl issue:

Corona 5.0.1 Untether: If you converted from Tethered to Untethered using Corona, simply download the updated version 1.0-3 from Cydia.

There has been a second update to RedSn0w

The b3 version of redsn0w fixes a problem where re-running redsn0w over an existing jailbreak would cause MobileSubstrate-based apps to stop running until MS was installed again. Now you can re-run the redsn0w jailbreak step without worrying about that (but still remember to de-select the “Install Cydia” option if it’s already installed). – Dev-Team Blog

To fix the bugs and update to the new Mobile Substrate, simply download the following updated version of RedSn0w:

RedSn0w 0.9.10b3 for Windows

RedSn0w 0.9.01b3 for Mac

This also works if you used RedSn0w 0.9.10b1 to Untether Jailbreak.

Corona 5.0.1 1.0-3

Redsn0w 0.9.10b2

– Download RedSn0w 0.9.10b2 [Mac / Windows]
Window users: Run RedSn0w as Administrator
– Hit Jailbreak
– Set iDevice to DFU mode
– If already Jailbroken with RedSn0w 0.9.10b1, UNCHECK “Install Cydia”

– If you are doing a fresh Jailbreak, have “Install Cydia” CHECKED
 -Click “Next”
